Freedom and Responsibility

Christian Bretscher’s vision is one of an open and tolerant Switzerland that enables all of us to lead a peaceful life according to individual wishes and needs, while respecting the same rights of others.

This requires that we take responsibility for our community and common future, and serve our fellow human beings, regardless of their political persuasion, faith, their sexual orientation and background, and that we support those in hardship. If these principles of coexistence are not upheld, the State should intervene. But only then. This is because the State and politics have only one main task, in the view of Christian Bretscher: to protect individual freedoms.

For this reason he decided to join the Free-Democratic Party (Freisinnig-Demokratische Partei FDP). And this is what he is championing today. Among other involvements: from 1991 to 2000 in the Cantonal Parliament, from 2000 to 2005 in the Zurich Constitutional Council, from 2007 to 2011 President of the First District Party of Zurich, and since 2008 member of the Party Caucus of the Zurich FDP.
